A manufacturer of large chiller systems hoped to sell their product in both the EU and US markets. The system therefore had to satisfy dual EMC limits and significantly reduce high-current harmonic distortion to comply with both regions' regulations. Additionally, power effectiveness was a key client requirement, mandating a minimum 85% power factor across range of operation.
For conformance to EU and FCC legislation, our engineers selected and installed an off-the-shelf high current Roxburgh EMC filter which significantly reduced the emissions limits. The second phase of the project involved selecting a power quality filter to reduce harmonic limits and optimising that filter by switching out the internal capacitors to maintain the minimum 85% power factor requirement.
Meeting all relevant emissions regulations, the large chiller system is reliable, highly efficient and ready for sale in the EU and US markets.
