A client of 20 years contacted us when they had a new 5-axis milling machine which required a filter to meet CE and UKCA emissions standards before it could go into the market.

The Challenge

Although individual components in the machinery met the relevant standards, combined in the unit, the conducted emissions levels were too high. The machine had to meet CE and UKCA standards and with 5-axis milling control, the selected EMC filter needed to be suitable for multiple drives. As the unit had already been designed, space was at a premium, so our engineers had to select a filter which would fit into the allotted space.

The Solution

As the large machine would have been too costly to transport to our Lincolnshire laboratory, our engineers took their mobile testing equipment to the client’s site instead. Pre-compliance testing was undertaken with a selection of Roxburgh EMC’s most suitable filters to determine which one delivered the best performance for the machinery. The filter selected was a mains filter from our KMF range, which met the multiple drive requirement and was a suitable size to fit into the control panel.

Client Benefit

Using an off-the-shelf Roxburgh EMC filter which met all requirements, the client was able to avoid costly problem-solving time within an Accredited Test Lab. The milling machine met all emissions standards and time-to-market was reduced.
